Instagram DM automation templates you can paste in today
Copy-paste Instagram DM automation templates for lead magnets, price enquiries, welcome messages and follow-ups — with the button limits that break them.
Good Instagram DM automation templates are short, specific and written for a notification preview rather than a page. The copy below is meant to be pasted straight into JaldiDM and edited — a lead magnet, a price enquiry, a product link, a welcome message, a follow-gate, a public comment reply and a follow-up. Every button label is deliberately kept tiny, for a reason explained further down.
The character limits your copy has to fit
These are Instagram's limits, not ours, and they apply to every tool on the official API:
- Button title: 20 characters maximum. This is the one that catches people out. “Download the free guide” is 23 characters and will be rejected — “Get the guide” is 13 and works.
- Card title: 80 characters, and card subtitle: 80 characters. Write the title as a product name, not a sentence.
- Links are not clickable in comments, but they are in DMs. That single fact is why the comment reply below never contains a URL.
- 24-hour messaging window. Free-form replies have to go out within 24 hours of the person's last message, so any follow-up template needs to land inside that day.
Instagram DM automation templates by purpose
Replace the square brackets with your own words. Keep the first line under about ten words — that is all anyone reads in the notification.
1. Lead magnet delivery
- Comment trigger: GUIDE
- DM: “Here you go — the [name of guide], exactly as promised. Tap below and it opens straight away. If anything in it doesn't make sense, just reply here and I'll explain.”
- Button: “Get the guide” (13 characters)
2. Price enquiry
- Comment or DM trigger: PRICE
- DM: “Happy to share. [Product] starts at [₹ amount] and includes [one specific thing]. Full breakdown on the page below — and tell me what you're planning, I'll say whether it's the right fit.”
- Button: “See pricing” (11 characters)
The closing question matters more than the link. It invites a reply, which keeps the conversation open and gives your lead generation flow something to qualify.
3. Product link card
- Card title: “[Product name] — [size, colour or variant]”
- Card subtitle: “[₹ price]. [One benefit in five words]. Ships in [X] days.”
- Button: “Buy now” (7) or “See the product” (16)
4. Welcome message
- DM: “Hi [name] — thanks for messaging. I'm usually here between [hours]. Quickest way to help: tell me what you're after, or tap below for the common questions.”
- Button: “Common questions” (16 characters)
5. Follow-gate
- DM before the offer: “This one's for followers — hit follow and tap below, and the link comes through immediately.”
- Button: “I'm following” (13 characters)
- If they haven't followed: “Not showing yet on my side — give it a second and tap again.” Never accuse anyone of lying; the check is occasionally slow.
6. Public comment reply
- Reply under the comment: “Sent it to your DMs [name] — check your requests folder if you don't see it.”
- Write three or four variations and rotate them. Twenty identical replies in a row is the single most robotic thing an account can do. More on this in our guide to automatic comment replies.
7. Follow-up inside the 24-hour window
- DM: “Did the [guide/link] open properly? If you've had a look, the bit worth starting with is [section]. And if it's not what you needed, tell me and I'll point you somewhere better.”
- Button: “Book a call” (11 characters)
8. Keyword opener for a specific offer
- Caption line: “Comment [WORD] and I'll send it over.”
- DM: “[WORD] it is. Here's [the thing] — the code is [CODE] and it works until [date].”
- Button: “Use the code” (12 characters)
Pick trigger words nobody uses in ordinary conversation, or the automation fires on comments that were never meant for it. See keyword trigger automation for how to add spelling variants to a single automation.
What separates human-sounding templates from robotic ones
- One idea per message. Robotic copy stacks a greeting, a pitch, a link and a disclaimer into one block.
- No corporate throat-clearing. “Thank you for reaching out to us, we value your enquiry” tells the reader a machine is talking.
- Ask something. A question at the end turns a broadcast into a conversation and keeps the window open.
- Contractions and short sentences. People type “here you go”, not “please find attached”.
- Admit the automation if asked. “That first message was automatic — I'm here now” costs nothing and buys trust.
- Let AI take the messy ones. Templates cover the predictable asks; AI intent replies answer from FAQs you write yourself, and anything uncertain lands in the shared inbox for a person.
Putting these templates live
Each of these is a few minutes of setup in JaldiDM: pick the post, set the keyword, paste the copy, add the button, turn it on. The mechanics are covered in our comment to DM automation guide. You need an Instagram Professional account linked to a Facebook Page, because that is what Instagram requires for messaging permissions.
Test every template from a second account before you promote the post — mainly to catch a button label that quietly ran over 20 characters. Pro is ₹399/month, Pro Plus ₹999/month, or ₹2,599/year annually, billed in rupees with a GST invoice. The 7-day free trial does not ask for a card.
Frequently asked questions
What should an Instagram DM automation template actually say?
One idea, in the fewest words that still sound like you: what they asked for, where it is, and a question that invites a reply. The first line is the only part visible in the notification, so put the payoff there rather than a greeting. Anything longer than three short sentences usually gets skimmed past.
What are the character limits for Instagram DM buttons and cards?
A button title is capped at 20 characters, and a card title and card subtitle are capped at 80 characters each. These are Instagram’s limits and apply to every tool on the official API, so “Download the free guide” at 23 characters will fail while “Get the guide” at 13 works. Count your button labels before you promote the post.
Can I include a clickable link in an automated Instagram DM?
Yes — links are tappable in DMs, which is exactly why comment-to-DM exists. Links are not clickable in comments or captions, so a public comment reply should tell people to check their inbox rather than carry a URL. JaldiDM’s link shortener also tracks clicks per automation so you can see which template is actually working.
How do I keep automated DM copy from sounding robotic?
Use contractions, ask a question, and cut the corporate opener — “thank you for reaching out, we value your enquiry” announces a machine. Write three or four variations of any public comment reply and rotate them, because twenty identical replies in a row is the giveaway. If someone asks, say the first message was automatic; it costs nothing and buys trust.
Can I send a follow-up DM after the first template?
Yes, as long as it lands inside Instagram’s 24-hour messaging window, which starts from the person’s last message to you. After that window you are limited to approved message types, so a next-day check-in is not something any compliant tool can send. Plan the follow-up as a same-day nudge rather than a drip sequence.
